Homelessness isn’t just about sleeping rough. It’s about people, real people with stories, trauma, strength, and untapped potential. It’s about broken systems, early-life adversity, and the invisible battles many face long before they lose a home.

That’s why Homelessness Inside Out was created, to shift the conversation from judgement to understanding, and from awareness to action.

Homelessness Inside Out is a lived experience-led platform that brings together powerful storytelling, education, and advocacy.

Founded by someone who has personally experienced the care system, abuse, mental health struggles, and life on the streets, this initiative is rooted in raw truth and real transformation.

What Does Homelessness Inside Out Offer?

Through books, workshops, and keynote speeches, we take people beneath the surface to explore what really drives homelessness, and how we can respond with compassion, knowledge, and courage.

Our books, including Homelessness Inside Out and Gutter to Glory –Pavements to Parliament, give voice to those often silenced. They are part memoir, part movement, offering both insight and inspiration.

Our interactive workshops are designed for frontline workers, students, community groups and professionals. These sessions challenge assumptions, promote trauma-informed practice, and create safe space for meaningful reflection.

Our keynote speeches are bold, honest, and unforgettable. They connect audiences emotionally and intellectually, reminding us that homelessness is just a circumstance and not a characteristic.

We believe that real change begins when we stop looking at homelessness from the outside and start understanding it from the inside.

Whether you’re working in housing, education, health, criminal justice, or simply care about making a difference,

Join the movement. Read the books. Host a workshop. Book a talk.

Be the Change

I often say: real change starts from the inside out. And I mean that. Whether it’s in ourselves, our services, or our society, transformation happens when we choose to listen, to learn, and to act. My name is Kerri Douglas. I survived the system. I survived the streets. Now I speak so others don’t have to suffer in silence.

Let’s be the change. From the inside out. Sign up below or follow us on social media for updates on the movement.
